Google Is Set To Unveil A Powerful Search Engine With AI Chatbot Features
The competition in the field of
artificial intelligence (AI) technology is escalating, with Google facing
challenges from the increasing popularity of AI chatbots, especially OpenAI’s
ChatGPT. In response, Google is planning to launch a chatbot search engine
along with over 20 other AI projects to enhance its portfolio against
competitors. This move was triggered by a “code red” declaration from the company's
top management last month, aiming to compete with ChatGPT.

Microsoft’s recent partnership with OpenAI and plans to integrate ChatGPT into Bing have further added to Google’s challenges. To address this, Google is advancing its chatbot search engine with the involvement of co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Company executives sought advice from the founders on how to compete with the growing competition in the AI sector.
The demo of the chatbot will focus
on key factors such as accuracy, safety, and combating misinformation. The New
York Times reported on Google’s multiple AI projects under development,
including an image generation tool, a product prototype testing app, and a
green screen mode for YouTube similar to TikTok.

Despite the growing competition, Google is proceeding with caution in releasing its AI technology and improving its product approval processes, including fairness and ethics reviews. The company intends to showcase its upcoming projects at the I/O conference in May 2023.
This move demonstrates that Google
recognizes the growth of ChatGPT and wants to remain ahead of the trend. CEO
Sundar Pichai stated that the company is preparing to offer “some entirely new
experiences for users, developers, and businesses.” However, this decision came
with a cost, as Google was criticized for dismissing over 12,000 employees.

In an internal memo, the CEO wrote:
"I am optimistic about the huge opportunity in front of us due to the strength of our mission, the value of our products and services, and our early investments in AI. To fully capture it, we will have to make tough choices."
