Hashtag Usage Rules |
WHAT IS HASHTAG (#) AND WHY DO WE USE IT
Nowadays
everyone on social media’s popular platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube,
Instagram, Pinterest, Google+) is using hashtags (#), there are many posts
starting with the hashtag (#). Did you know why we use hashtags (#), did the
hashtags have any purpose, what this small symbol means or what this little
symbol can do for you?
It’s
some time now that I am observing some people using hashtags on social media
without proper meanings of it. So, I decided to ask some people who are very
active on some social media platforms about the purpose of using hashtags.
It
come as surprise to me that many of them (especially Facebook users as per my
information) told me that using a hashtag makes text color change, highlights,
and looks good. But this is not the reality about hashtags usage, even though
it's correct that it makes text highlighted, but using hashtags has a greater
and important purpose in searching for correct information.
What is Hashtag (#)?
The
hashtag is a small label often used before post on social media platforms, it
helps to find a specific post, specific content in a post, or other
information. it can be a single word e.g., #word, or a string of
words without spaces e.g., #Astringofwords or #A_string_of_words.
What is the use?
Using
a specific hashtag on your social media posts enables you to find information
easily if you are looking for the same in the future. You can also look for a
piece of specific information on social media for example if you are
looking for a job in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Visit
the “LinkenIn.com” (because on linkedIn.com there are higher chances of
getting a job if you know how to search properly) or any other platform and
search with hashtags, for example, if you are searching on LinkedIn.com,
go to search bar look for these hashtags #jobsinuae, #jobsindubai,
#jobsindubai2021, #jobsindubaicity, etc. You will find the
relevant results which will help you to find better, correct, and specific
information.
If
you are posting on social media about a specific topic for example your post is
about interview preparation you can use #interviewpreparation for general
purpose and if you want to search the exact same post then use a specific
hashtag for example #yournameinterviewpreprartion keep in mind that
space is not allowed between the words you can make one like this #yourname_interview_preprartion.
When
you are using a hashtag if it's already in use it will show you as you type and
the number of results already exists on that platform, if you wish to use
select the one in the list, otherwise use your own if you want to make it
unique.
The
hashtag should be specific to the content and use keywords that best describe
your post or tweet and you can easily remember. It is recommended that there
should not be more than three hashtags in a post or tweet, even though you can
make as many as you wish but it makes things clutter, less is more when it
comes to hashtags.
Hope
next time you will use the hashtag (#) with its genuine purpose, not just to
make the text highlight & attractive.
